A steam locomotive that pulled sand trams before electricity, 1884
Egypt - Alexandria - Raml Station
When the Raml tram line was established in the 1850s, it was a railway-based tramway pulled by horses. Unfortunately, we have not yet obtained any photographs documenting this in Alexandria (there are photographs of horse-drawn carriages in Port Said). Later, the trams were pulled by steam locomotives (as in this rare photo taken in 1884). The line was electrified in the early 20th century, and the trams have been powered by electricity ever since.
