Egypt, Al-Bahr Mosque in Damietta, circa 1980 AD

A photograph of the Al-Bahr Mosque in Damietta, apparently taken from the Damietta Bridge around 1980.

This mosque witnessed the last recitations of Sheikh Mustafa Ismail (may God have mercy on him) in 1978. On the left, we can see the furniture of Youssef Al-Iraqi.

A resident of Damietta recounts:

When we first arrived in this beautiful city, we got off the train and took a boat to the other side of the Nile to reach Damietta. We then entered a very wide street where there was a cinema that showed foreign films. The village where we lived consisted mostly of carpentry workshops alongside farmland. Most of Damietta's holidays were politically charged, similar to those in Port Said and Suez. There were many pomace trees. I wish our stay had been longer so I could have told you much more, but all this I've said was when I was about four or five years old.
