Rhodesia Railways with the train to Cape Town 1913
Rhodesia
This is the English colonial name for the regions north of the Lepopo River and South Africa. After these regions gained independence and the formation of an African government, they were renamed the Republic of Rhodesia in 1965 and are now known as Zimbabwe.
These regions were administratively part of Southern Zambia, but in 1895 they were renamed Rhodesia. The name "South" was introduced in 1901 and remained in use under the name of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland until 1964.
