The Jewel of Islamic Architecture in India The Taj Mahal (in Hindi: ताज महल) is a magnificent mausoleum located in the city of Agra, in northern India.

It was commissioned by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who is buried at its heart. The Taj Mahal is considered one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture, a style that reached its peak in this masterpiece. It harmoniously blends Indian, Persian, Ottoman, and Islamic architectural elements into a breathtaking whole. Construction of this iconic monument began in 1632 AD and was completed in 1653 AD.

The architect is believed to have been the renowned Persian designer Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.
