Egypt, Ramleh Station, Alexandria 1904
From this location, the oldest tram in Africa departed. Initially, it was pulled by horses, until 1863, during the reign of Khedive Ismail, when the tram network was built on iron rails.
The trams were driven by Italian drivers, and the conductor was Maltese. Each tram had a black car designated for transporting the dead.
The photo shows a kiosk labeled "Monferrato," an Italian bar.
