Ophthalmology Hospital in El-Santa, Al Gharbia – 1915

This title refers to the Ophthalmology (Eye) Hospital in El-Santa, a town in Al Gharbia Governorate, in 1915, during the reign of Sultan Hussein Kamel (1914–1917).

This period marked a transitional phase in Egypt’s modern history, following the British declaration of the Protectorate in 1914. Despite the political changes, the government continued to expand public health services, particularly eye hospitals, which played a vital role in combating widespread eye diseases such as trachoma.

The El-Santa Eye Hospital served as a regional medical center for the surrounding rural communities in the Nile Delta, reflecting the early governmental efforts to extend specialized healthcare beyond major urban centers.
