During the Construction of the Ophthalmology Hospital in Fayoum – 1915

This title refers to the construction phase of the Ophthalmology (Eye) Hospital in the city of Fayoum in 1915, during the reign of Sultan Hussein Kamel (1914–1917).

According to the hospital’s foundation plaque, the cost of all equipment and facilities amounted to 4,000 Egyptian Pounds, a substantial sum at the time, reflecting the early governmental efforts to provide specialized healthcare to combat prevalent eye diseases, particularly trachoma.

The hospital was part of a series of ophthalmology hospitals established by the government to offer specialized eye care services across Egypt, aiming to improve public health and expand medical care beyond major urban centers.
